RH PRACTICE AREAS
When legal problems threaten your business, your employees, or your peace of mind, you need counsel who understands not just the law—but the real-world challenges behind it.
As a partner at Rolfes Henry, James Birch helps clients navigate legal and business risks with clarity, efficiency, and strategy. From contract disputes to regulatory pitfalls, from overdue accounts to HR challenges, James collaborates with companies and individuals to deliver practical, cost-effective solutions that resolve issues and prevent future problems.
Business owners and entrepreneurs often come to James when they’re overwhelmed by the legal complexities of running a company. Whether it’s structuring a deal, drafting or negotiating franchise and vendor contracts, conducting due diligence, or ensuring compliance with employment laws, James delivers tailored advice grounded in years of experience both in and out of the courtroom. As outside general counsel for businesses across industries—including auto dealerships and staffing agencies—he is a trusted partner for ongoing legal needs, including corporate governance, document drafting, and Human Resources guidance.
In probate and estate matters, families often find themselves facing confusion, conflict, or even crisis during an already emotional time. Whether it’s uncertainty over a loved one’s wishes, disputes between heirs, or the overwhelming task of navigating the probate process, James provides steady, compassionate legal guidance every step of the way. He helps clients interpret wills and trusts, manage the complexities of estate administration, and resolve conflicts before they escalate—all with a focus on reducing stress, avoiding unnecessary legal battles, and achieving peace of mind.
James also works proactively with individuals and families to draft clear, legally sound estate documents that reflect their wishes and protect their loved ones. From wills and trusts to powers of attorney and advance directives, he helps clients put the right plans in place—minimizing the risk of future disputes and ensuring that their legacy is carried out as intended.
When litigation arises, James brings a sharp, focused approach to resolving disputes. He has successfully represented clients in contract and employment conflicts, collections actions, and workers’ compensation defense—where his designation as a Certified Claims Professional from the CLM gives his clients, including small businesses and third-party administrators, a distinct advantage. His insurance litigation practice extends to commercial property and casualty defense, offering comprehensive representation to carriers and insureds alike.
James also understands the unique needs of schools and nonprofits, drawing on his prior experience as a school principal to help educational institutions manage compliance, employment, and governance matters with confidence.
A graduate of Nova Southeastern University (B.S., Legal Studies, 1999) and NSU Shepard Broad College of Law (J.D., 2002), James is a member of the Ohio Bar and lives in Cincinnati with his wife and six children.
